Project leader for the case study "Skill Acquisition and Labour Market Experience of At Risk Workers in Steel, Light Manufacturing and Nursing Homes" His primary research interests are in the area of management responses to unionization, participative forms of work organization, wage and employment outcomes, and the contribution of workplace innovations to organizational effectiveness and performance. He was President of the Canadian Industrial Relations Association (1996-97) and serves on the editorial board of several journals. He is Member, Executive Board, International Industrial Relations Association, Geneva; and, Member, Advisory Committee on Labour Statistics, Statistics Canada. Professor Verma consults with a wide range of businesses, unions, and government agencies and has been a speaker at many national and international conferences. He has published over sixty articles in research journals and books. He has co-edited the October 2002 issue of the British Journal of Industrial Relations on union growth prospects. He has co-edited six books including: Restructuring Work and the Life Course (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2001); Contract and Commitment: Employment Relations in the New Economy (Kingston, ON: IRC Press, 1999); Regionalization and Labour Market Interdependence in East and South-east Asia (London: Macmillan, 1997). |
