Trish Hennessey: Research
associate for the case study "Technological
Change and Worker Learning in the Public Sector" Trish Hennessy is on a leave of absence from her job as economic researcher for the Ontario New Democratic Party in order to pursue her Master’s Degree in OISE’s Sociology in Equity Studies and Education program. Her work background includes coordinating communications around economist Armine Yalnizyan’s seminal research on the growing gap between rich and poor in Canada; social work; and her first career:: daily newspaper journalism. She has completed her B.A. Sociology from Queen’s University and B.S.W. (Hons) from Carleton University. Joining Dr. Peter Sawchuk’s research team for the Working IT project proved to be a perfect fit. It was through her research job at Queen’s Park that she first encountered the contentious details of the Ontario government’s contract with Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting). The work she contributes to the Working IT project will also inform her thesis. She will be utilizing feminist standpoint theory and feminization of labour theory to make links between significant reforms to Ontario’s public sector and the provision of welfare and disability services by primarily women workers undergoing significant work changes within the globalized new economy. |
